About Us


The State Department of Archaeology was started in the year "1964" with the objectives of conservation and preservation of ancient monuments in Gujarat, to conduct excavations at historical sites.The aim of the department is to showcase the rich heritage and glorious traditions of Gujarat with its classical Gujarati language, magnificent monuments, exquisite temples, art and sculpture and diversified traditions. The Department of Archaeology has been working hard to preserve and protect our diverse and rich cultural wealth. The way the Department has overcome the challenges posed by the vestiges of time is truly commendable. A melting pot of a plethora of lifestyles, Gujarat has been successful in showcasing a huge array of historical sites before a global audience. The Department of Archaeology has been actively engaged in scientifically preserving and protecting these cultural centres.

  • Digitalized 40,000 samples of the museum and computerized it.Dedication of Patan Museum, Patan Immediately Hon. Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela, and Hon. Respect. Revenue Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel under the chairmanship of Gujarat State. It was opened to the public on 21-7-2011.

    At the Patan Museum, he created five magnificent diaries depicting the culture of Patan and a huge diary with a school for making Patola and its equipments to preserve the art of Patola which is now extinct in the museum.
